General information

Rēzekne is a major city and centre of the Rēzekne administrative district comprising population of ~ 36 798. It lies in the very centre of Latgale region, at the crossroads of two international motorways - St. Petersburg-Warsaw and Riga-Moscow, hence it is called also "the heart of Latgale".
Rēzekne lies on 7 hills and the Rēzekne river flows through it.
Latgale liberation monument - United for Latvia, popularly called Latgales Māra, is the symbol of Rēzekne.
The temples of different confessions are the most characteristic trait of Rēzekne testifying to the multinational composition of the city population.

Rēzekne district

The Rēzekne region is characteristic of a network of small rivers and the largest total lake area in Latvia. Here the first largest lake of Latvia, the Lubāna lake, enclosed by nature resources, diverse plants and animals, is located, as well as Rāzna lake, the second largest. By volume of water, however, the Rāzna lake is the first and is location place of many tourist enterprises.
The third highest peak of Latvia - Lielais Liepu hill being 289 m a. s. level lies not far away from the Rāzna lake.
Plenty of cultural and historic attractions lie in the district: 163 culture heritage monuments of national importance, of which the Lūznava manor houses are the most magnificent.
The Rēzekne district is rich in craftsmen's workshops where ancient crafts and mostly work in potteries can be observed.
