The Catholic Church of Rušona

The current stone church of Rušona was built in 1816.
The first known Catholic church of Rušona was a wood building, supposedly, built in the 16th century. Rušona used to be a populated place with the rights of a village, because there were large roads going through it: to Daugavpils, Dagda, Rēzekne and other places. When a railroad and highway were built, they didn't go through Rušona village and life in it slowly declined and around 1870 it lost its village status.

In 1677, Jesuits together with steward Sokolovskis built a wood church in Rušona. In 1766, in the location of the previous church was built the third wood church, but in 1816, funded by Ieva Selecka, was built the current stone church of Rušona.
