The estate was built on the side of czar's road from Russia to Europa in the 19. century. Around the wooden estate building was park with rare species of trees. It is on national protection. In the park was built original windmill. The excursions are led by guides of Salnava school.

August 27. in district Laši (now district Eglaine) was born Gothards Fridrihs Stenders - the priest of German nationality, enlightener, the father of Latvian temporal literature, linguist, called also as Old Stenders. In 1989. here, in honour of his 275 anniversary, was opened the memorial stone and museum.

In Birkeneles Lutheran Chruch tourist cemetery is seen ex Berkeneles (Birkeneles) evangelical lutheran Church (1830) building. The Church was built for count Fridriha fon Klopmana assets. Its steeple is decorated with the ornamental weathercock. The church, when soviet power took away it from parish, is not working many years. Near the church is a resting place of German teacher Bazeners, German teacher of J. Rainis. Bazeners worked as scoolmaster in Grivas German secondary school. On the right side from Bazenera cemetery place is cemetery place of Birkinelu ex - landlord, baron, Vidzemes landmarshal Hamilkars fon Felkerzams.

Aulejas Church is one of the oldest wooden churches in Latgale. It is built in 1530. The old church was very ruined during the war, therefore Jesuits built new wooden Church in 1626., which burnt in 1685. Our days church was built in 1709.

The Lutheran Church of Subate, which was built in 1685., has the special place in the history of art in Latvia. At the first, its architecture is totally different from the traditional architecture of churches of countrysides in Latvia. At the second, the name of Subate is used to say about the group of woodcarvers and woodsculptors, which at the end of 17. century made a lot of different equipments for churches in Latvia and Lithuania. The equipment of the church in Subate, probable, was the biggest piece of work of this group, it was reconstructed just a little. Under the rich decoration can be easy seen the construction of the building, which is supplemented with the big number of sculptures and narrative mouldings.

In the 17. century was built the first estate building. In 18. century the Polish king August III gave the estate as a present for Jānis Borhs, the chancellor of Pasienes earth. The chancellor built also the beautiful church of Pasiene. At the end of 18. century the property got Benislavsku family. The last its landlady was countess Oboļevska, after the war here was primary school of Pasiene. It is privatized now and is waiting for renewal.

Augstkalnes Catholic parochial St. Familie Church is wooden building layed with bricks. It is 18,5 m high and 8,5 m wide. In spring 1946. Pope Janis Strods started to build new Church in the place, where old Church burnt down in 1944.

In former times Balbinova (Indra) had been in Piedruja congregation. In 1801 Nitoslavsku family asked Tsar Alexander I the permission to build their wooden chapel on the family cemetery. In 1803 chapel was built. In 1940 the new church building was almost completed, it was consecrated by Bishop Jazeps Rancans. Improvement works continued also after the consecration.
