Project: Development of IT programming and robotics competencies in schools in cross border regions Latgale, Visaginas and Ignalina (LLI-542 RoboNet)

Latgale Region Development Agency as a Lead Partner, together with project partner – Euroregion "Country of Lakes" office in Lithuania (LT) - is implementing project of the Interreg V-A Latvia – Lithuania Cross Border Cooperation Programme 2014-2020, which directly contributes to the Programme Priority 4: Improved quality of living through efficient public services and administration, and its Specific Objective 4: To improve efficiency of public services by strengthening capacities and cooperation between institutions.

Project overall objective is to increase the region's human resources competences in IT programming and robotics in cross border regions of Latgale, Visaginas and Ignalina.

Project implementation period
: 01 August, 2020 – 31 May, 2022.

Total projects size is 369 330,00 EUR
. Out of them co-funding of European Regional Development Fund is 313 930,50 EUR.

(LP - 236 290,00 EUR, PP2 – 133 040,00 EUR).

Project specific objectives
are:
1) Increase the capacity of regional schools in IT programming and robotics competencies
By developing competences of schools teachers necessary preconditions will be set to create system for STEM education model (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) in regions schools, that will contribute achievement of overall objective. In-depth learning of subjects in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics as well as practical lessons in IT programming, problem solution and robotics will develop necessary skills for pupils thus enriching human capital of regions, what will lead to higher value added product development for regions economies in the future.

2) To strengthen the network of educational institutions providing STEM education
The STEM Network’s purpose is to connect science, technology, engineering and math educators to discuss, explore and share best practices and research in STEM teaching and student learning through the use of technology in the Programme territory and outside, by participating in conferences, seminars and robotics competitions.

Expected project results
:
1) STEM education model introduced in 14 regional schools;
2) Established international network of schools, municipalities and NGOs actively participating and promoting STEM model education;
3) 30 teachers from 14 schools of Programme area competences increased in IT and robotics;
4) 420 pupils of Programme area school actively participate in robotics interest education groups;
5) Equipment and literacy for robotics interest education courses purchased for 14 schools in programme area.
By promoting and implementing STEM education model in Programme area schools public service of education will be strongly improved, which will form bases for competences high skilled labor in future for productive sector companies of the border regions.
